2. MattNutts Multi Author Social Blog Network
Submission From: http://mattnutts.com/
Initial Thoughts
At first glance, Matt Nutts has a very appealing design that’s clean and straight forward. The first thing that caught my attention was the unique logo, despite the surrounding text being somewhat hard to read. Another glaring issue that sticks out is the lack of images embedded in posts, even though there’s a clearly defined area for the images. Why not take advantage of the template to show your readers you’re exerting time and effort into your posts?
The Site’s Flow
I looked everywhere for an “About” to see exactly what Matt Nutts was trying to accomplish, but my efforts didn’t pay off. After looking at a few of the posts, I noticed the content is usually published in a relatively sloppy manner. The blog’s inconsistencies in design are clearly displayed here. Although the content on the page is helpful, the adsense ads are placed in an obnoxious area, and again, the content within that post doesn’t coincide with the rest of the layout.
Matt Nutts Conclusion
I’d like to see some clear definition outlining what Matt Nutts’ goals are. I also recommend providing more consistency throughout the posts, and taking advantage of the image space provided by your chosen theme. Matt Nutts Review Added March 4, 2007
1. Installing PCLinuxOS On Your Computer
Submission From: http://pchabitat.com/
Initial Thoughts
PC Habitat has a very professional appearance from the very beginning. The user friendly buttons at the top are clearly labeled, a simple yet effective logo exists, the layout is very organized, but the content could use additional formatting. I’d recommend adding a line-height attribute to add distance between each line in paragraphs, and maybe increase the size of the font one or two pixels.
The Site’s Flow
The introduction on the first page clearly defines the purpose and jumps right into the good stuff. Tutorial 1 has an excellent page, but I’d suggest implementing a script that gives the visitor an opportunity to see larger versions of the screen shots, without leaving the page. Send me an email or comment if you’d like to see what I’m referring to in action. Also, the organization appears to have disappeared on the tutorial pages. Make use of header tags to provide a brief summary of each section within the tutorial.
If this site is to serve as a series leading up to a final goal, I’d also consider implementing Home, Back and Next links at the top and bottom of every tutorial. This allows the visitor to go through the tutorial more easily, and prevents the need to click the back & forward buttons in the browser.
PC Habitat - Conclusion
The potential for this site to serve as a PCLinuxOS authority exists, but the main obstacle right now appears to be a lack of content. With only five steps at the time of review, there’s very little cause for motivation to persuade a Windows user to make the switch to Linux. Once a hefty amount of content has been added, a discussion forum integrated into the site’s easy to navigate layout would provide an excellent extension to an extensive PCLinuxOS knowledge base.

Thanks for the information. Good to have a good idea of what I need to do for this section of my site. Much appreciated.

Thanks for the review, perhaps I should rename the Join Us page to About
No problem Chris, thank you for submitting your site. Renaming the “Join Us” page to “About” is a great idea. Maybe toward the end of the “About” page you could mention the opportunity to Join.
