Use mp3s as Ringtones on Your LG AX8600
For those of us that own an LG AX8600, but aren’t willing to dish out $2.99 for a ringtone, here’s a way to add mp3s to your phone and use them as ringtones.
What you’ll need:
- USB Data Cable
- micro SD card
- Computer with XP, although this could possibly work with Linux
- mp3s
- LG AX8600
- Audacity (optional)
First, insert the micro SD card into your AX8600. Next, plug the USB data cable into your AX8600, then your computer. Windows will auto detect your phone and the micro SD card, just click next, next, next, until finished. Open My Computer and notice the new drive. Mine shows up as, (J:) Removable Media. If you see LG_MEDIA after double clicking the new drive, skip the next paragraph.
If not, Stop the device by double clicking the USB icon in the system tray, remove the micro SD card, disconnect the usb cable, then put the micro SD card back in the phone, plug the USB data cable back in, and try again.
Double click the LG_MEDIA folder, then other_audio. Locate the mp3 you’d like as a ringtone and use Audacity to cut out a specific portion if desired. This is recommended because the phone has a limited amount of available space. Once you’ve selected an entire song, sound clip, or cut out segment, copy the audio file into the other_audio folder, then rename the copied file’s extension from .mp3 to .qcp. Locate the file on your phone by navigating to My Media, Audio, Downloads. Either copy or move the QCP file to your phone to have the ability to use that audio file as a ringtone.
Finally, set the audio file copied to your phone as ringtone like you normally would.

Also there’s a free online tool http://www.makeownringtone.com It’s a bit less complicated than using downloadable software.
