Less Than Normal Visitors During the Holidays? Here’s Why

Ever since Thanksgiving weekend, Nullamatix.com has suffered close to a 50% traffic loss. After consulting with some experts in the field, they provided a very simple explanation. People aren’t searching for what they normally search for. Sites related to technology, web, security, Linux, and other similar topics just aren’t as important this time of year. Instead, e-commerce type sites are booming with web savvy Christmas shoppers looking for good deals. So what can we do to make up for this traffic loss?

Stay Motivated and Keep Updating

Months worth of fresh, rich content have produced a gradual increase in your site’s traffic each day, so why stop now? Keep adding that fresh content to maintain priority in Google’s index. This may come as a surprise to some, but Google’s Bot loves continuously changing pages. If Google Bot visits your site and fails to notice a difference, the amount of time until the next visit increases, a lot. Remain focused and maintain positive morale. The holiday season will pass soon enough, and surfers will begin searching for all that content you’ve been writing for them.

Write Informative Product Reviews

As a result of the traffic loss, I found myself struggling when trying to come up with a topic worth writing about. If you’re experiencing writers block, write a review about an item or service you either know a lot about, or genuinely enjoy. As an example, I’ve recently purchased a Pioneer Premier DEH-P980BT for my truck. Not only does the deck out-perform my expectations, I know enough about the cd player to write up pros and cons, performance options, and more. Have you purchased something recently? If so, blog about what your thoughts are regarding the product, it’s just that easy. People searching for information about that product will eventually end up at your site one way or another.

Start Your Own E-Commerce or Affiliate Site

Even though opening an e-commerce or affiliate site probably wouldn’t return a lot this holiday season, starting now would definitely provide a head start for next year’s holiday season. The Internet provides a variety of ways to earn additional income without ever touching a single product. One of these methods, and probably the easiest, is known as BANS, or Build a Niche Store. Once installed, BANS will build an entire storefront for you using preexisting eBay auctions. BANS asks for your eBay affiliate ID during the installation to guarantee you receive credit when someone from your site makes the winning bid on an auction. How awesome is that?

Enjoy the Holiday Season Yourself!

Don’t beat yourself up, even site maintainers need a break once in a while. Traffic will pick up again, just keep adding that high quality content, and in the mean time, hang out with your loved ones. This time of year exists to bring people together. Avoid stressing over a loss in traffic and spend time with the important people in your life. You know who they are.
