GMail: Sorry, Your Account Has Been Disabled

Posted 1521 days ago - Uncategorized

Quite a few people over in Google groups have been reporting their gmail account has been disabled. Users are also mentioning they're unable to contact anyone at Google, and they've yet to receive any sort of written response from Google, either. Although a couple long term GMail users have mentioned their account is disabled, the problem appears to affect recently created accounts the most.

Rick Higbee explains,

my account was 3 years old and was primary account for my real estate business. I have contracts and very important contact info I can't access. Seemed to happen the same time as everyone else and I certainly haven't violated the TOS.

If your account has been disabled, you're encouraged to submit this form to Google. Someone suggested this is a temporary problem that happened last year, but aren't you suppose to learn from history so the same mistakes aren't repeated? Several people explained that calling Google either results in obnoxiously long sessions listening to hold music, an automated response instructing the caller to visit the help portion of Google's site, or to just use the on-line contact form.

As I write this I'm logged into my GMail account - what's your Gmail account status? Comment below..

Update: 01/20/2009

For those of you seeking a solution, the Official Google Blog published this information:

  • Don't share your Gmail password with anyone. Not friends, not family, not anyone. And if you need to write down your password, be sure to keep it in a safe place, away from your computer.
  • Don't respond to messages asking for your login info. As you may already know, there are people out there who will try to steal your login info. Google will never send you an email, IM, or any other communication asking for your Gmail login info, so don't respond to any messages asking for it.
  • Always keep the verification number you get when you sign up for Gmail. When you sign up for Gmail, we'll ask you for a secondary email address and then email a verification number to that account. This number is the best way to prove ownership of your account, so be sure to hang on to it.
  • If you aren't able to access your account, try resetting your password. As mentioned above, most of the support requests we get turn out to be lost or forgotten passwords, rather than something more serious. Resetting your password usually gets the job done.
  • If resetting your password doesn't work, try our account-recovery process. We recently launched an account-recovery form in our help center that can drastically reduce the amount of time it takes to verify ownership of an account and restore access. If you have the information necessary to prove ownership -- such as the verification code for the account -- this new process can help our support team restore access within a matter of hours.

There's also a, "I cannot access my account" page in the Google Help > Gmail Help section.

Good luck!

I've had my Gmail account for about a year and a half and have yet to experience any problems. My Gmail account status? Never better!

collapse k3221 # @ 2007-12-06 15:56:48

Mine is still up and running :]

But I wonder why people can't get in touch with anyone at Google... they too busy trying to own the world?

collapse ruckus ! # @ 2007-12-06 18:18:23

Perhaps the faulty service is merely trying to get us to appreciate it in the first place. Gmail is great; the staff that runs it is bound to have issues every now and then. Even if this problem has previously occurred, maybe the cause of fallacy is something completely different. Who knows? I bet those people sure would enjoy having access to a functioning account once more.

One of my primary gamil account is not accessible too for a couple of days but it is okey now. They might be tinkering on the system or what.

Either way, they should have made a public notice of sort.

Right out of the blue while sending a email to a mailing list I'm a
member of my account was disabled ([email address]). Aside from
personal family/school emails the only thing I use my email account
for is posting to some mac and linux mailing lists so I can't possibly
imagine why Google would want to disable my account. I have a sent a
inquiry to google regarding this event and unless I here back from
google (not holding my breath) I guess I'll just have to chalk this up
to a glitch in the gmail beta program. However I also wonder if one or
more accounts were causing some form of trouble on the server I was on
that triggered a mass disabling of accounts on the server the account
was on as such I would like to know, has anyone else's account been
disabled tonight? Very weird...

Best Regards,

John Musbach

P.S. While you're at it you might as well report this issue to Google as well via this form: http://mail.google.com/support/bin/request.py?contact_type=bugs&ctx=bugflow_signin00_signin03_signin04

There's no captcha, just a ****ing 'SORRY, YOUR ACCOUNT HAS BEEN DISABLED.'

Is there any possiblity that my account was hijacked?

Can any one else (who doesn't know the password) disable my account by doing something from the outside?

I need help immediately for both gmail which has been disabled and Picasa3 which I recently downloaded. I cannot seem to get any help with Picasa because my gmail account kiwigardenlady@gmail.com has been disabled. At the moment a number of photos have disappeared and captions have moved from one folder to another for no reason. I deleted them for the new folder and then the photo disappeared in the folder from which the caption came from. I did get one reply from google but they asked questions I could not answer because I did not understand what they were. Has anyone been able to reach a support person at Goggle?

collapse frustrated # @ 2009-02-01 01:36:40

Bad thing happened to me too. My account is disabled tonight or maybe earlier. I trusted google, but proved to be wrong now. As someone mentioned maybe this account is free, so it is not reliable. If this is the case, google should post big message to tell me in a big way "no warranty, use gmail at your own risk!". Then I won't use it as my primary free email in first place! Or be more professional, admit there is some system glitch going on, it might cause account being disable. So at least user knows this is a problem from google side and wait to be fixed.

I wish there is another search engine. goole is going to be replaced if they keep doing business like this.

collapse frustrated # @ 2009-02-01 01:43:14

Mine is also being disabled. Don't know what the problem is. After reading some post on the net, it seems to be some problem from google side. But still don't know whether or when the account can be re-enabled.

So question here is whether there is a real case google disable user's account? And why would they do this?

Anyway this is not very professional to not list potential reasons why user account is disabled. Personally MSFT seems to be doing better to share some issue's root cause. I wish MSFT to raise high to compete with google in search engine business. google's ass needs to be kicked to pay more attention to users.

This is an old article but, since I notice there are very recent replies, I'll add my own.

I've been trying to get hold of gmail/google for the past week - no replies and absolutely no comment by gmail. "Account Has Been Disabled" for no reason whatsoever and if there was a reason, I don't know what it is?

My gmail account was compromised by an individual who was setting up a FaceBook page and I started to get emails sent to her. I followed the instructions to reset my password and later followed the gmail support page for suspicion that someone had stolen my account at which time the account was disabled. Now I can't get on the blogger page I set up with that gmail account and I have heard nothing from gmail support. This level of customer support stinks. Pass the word. Gmail sucks!

I guess I'm writing just to kill my frustration; this is the most ridiculous thing ever;Google suspends your account without notification! Good luck finding any help whatsoever! Miserable service! No one would ever contact or respond the dozens of e.mails I sent them. They don't care. Their stocks are to "pretty" to care about their customers. I hope one they someone will close their accounts as well. I should've learn by now that "Nothing is free" and whatever looks like it is is just a scam (don't wait too long, like the person above who has all the business contacts in the Gmail account...sorry for you!)
The e.mail indicated in the "E-mail (required - never shown publicly)" spot is the one you guys blocked...so don't bother responding!

I have no idea what to do.

Ignore all the "tips" above, I tried em all, all you get is:

Sorry, your account has been disabled.

I knew someday these control freaks' email spying goons, will start bullying us all around, this day has come.

& to think that they warned us from Microsoft .. P-L-E-A-S-E ..

I have NEVER had a free email account disabled, this is unbelievable.

Gmail More than just "sucks", they are plain dangerous.

My account has been disabled without any reason. I have been using it for the last 5 years and I was expecting a job interview mail today. Tried verifying it but asking for a cell number with text messaging. I had disabled text messagin in my cell because AT&T charges a fee even for receiving text messages. I don't know how to access it immediately and most importantly why the hell they disabled it.

I will never use gmail for anything important.

This is it ! I'm done with this ridicoulos service; this has NEVER happened with my Yahoo account in 8 (EIGHT) years. I repeat that , NEVER!
With this Gmail account this happens again within only 6 months or so. And just so they culminate in their stupidity, the system will return a message that ask for your telephone number...just like they have never heard of password reset! Perhaps another way of collecting telephone numbers for marketing purposes. I hope everybody will give up their service. If not, good luck recovering your info!

My Gmail account was disabled some time between yesterday afternoon and this morning. I checked it yesterday, and it worked fine. This morning, I got a pop-up window on my iPhone saying that the Google Sync (push notifications) email account (linked to my Gmail account's) password is not correct. When I tried to log into my Gmail account on the Web, I got a Help page, saying:

"Google Accounts: I'm getting a message that says 'Sorry, your account has been disabled.'"

"If you've been redirected to this page from the sign in page, it means that access to your Google Account has been disabled."

"In most cases, accounts are disabled because of a perceived violation of either the Google Terms of Service or product-specific Terms of Service.

"Google reserves the right to:

" * Suspend a Google Account from using a particular product or the entire Google Accounts system if the Terms of Service or product-specific policies are violated.
" * Terminate your account at any time, for any reason, with or without notice.

"If your Google Account has been disabled, please review the relevant Terms of Service before attempting to create another account. For guidelines on a specific Google product, please visit the product homepage for a link to its Terms of Service.

"If you believe your account was disabled in error, contact us."

So, I clicked on the "contact us" link and filled out a request to have my account re-enabled.

I used this account for various financial institutions to send me notifications of statements, etc. I have a bunch of accounts using this Gmail account as the required email address. I used the Google calendar, Gmail, and Contacts to sync with my iPhone and my Macs's calendar, email, and address books. I used this service to invite my family members to events, and accept their invitations. The only thing I have never used this account for is SPAM. I never even emailed anything out of this account, except that Google would use it to email me notifications of my daily calendar events and calendar invitations from my family members. Moreover, my iTunes account was created with this Gmail account's email address. Therefore, all of my music, my Apple TV, and all of my Macs share content via this account. To make the long story short, by disabling this account, Google screwed me over BIG TIME. I did nothing to violate Google's terms.

My conclusion: "Free cheese can only be found in a mouse trap."

Because I have never paid a penny for Google services, they are not obligated to do anything to re-enable my account. Therefore, I got EXACTLY what I paid for. From now on, I will be only using paid email accounts - like Apple's Mobile Me or GoDaddy's accounts. No more freebies for me. The money that I have "saved" with free Google services is not worth the aggravation that I am facing while trying to undo the damage that Google caused.
