A Google Magazine Fueled by User Selected Content?

TechCrunch posted an article with details about a Google patent regarding publications. The patent entitled, “Customization of Content and Advertisements in Publications” is being thought of a potentially new service that will allow users to create their own printed magazines. The speculated result is a magazine with custom content, chosen by users, with highly targeted advertisements. Some may suggest more money for Google, but I disagree.

With the advancement of technology, devices like the iPhone and other smart phone like devices offer more mobility than ever before. Personally, I have no idea when the last time I picked up and actually read a magazine was. RSS readers are the new fad that rapidly increase the rate at which new information is potentially digested. When are we, as a species, going to migrate away and completely off of paper, really, there’s no point. Another printed publication? Give me a break. By the time the magazine is mailed, the information is already outdated, OLD news.

Google has yet to disappoint, and I do wish them continued success, but this project doesn’t sound very prosperous.
